Inca Trail & Amazon Combo

Experience the trip of a life time hiking the spectacular PRIVATE INCA TRAIL TREK into the Andean Mountains to Machu Picchu and later by boat to the largest Macaw Clay Lick in the Americas,where a "Rainbow of Macaws, Parrots and Parakeets make a daily visit their oasis in the Amazon.
From the incredible Inca Trail to the Amazons Rainforest this trip combines the best of both worlds.


Day 1 - arrive Lima
Depart from your home city arrive into Lima where you will be met and transferred to your hotel for your overnight.

Day 2 - Lima - Cuzco - Cuzco City & Archaeological tour of Sacsayhauman
Our staff will transfer you to the airport for your short flight to Cuzco where you will be met and escorted to your hotel. Relax the remainder of the morning with a cup of the local tea to help acclimate to the 11,400 ft. altitude of Cuzco. In the afternoon our guide will meet you at your hotel and take you to the historical and archaeological sites inside the City of Cuzco and to the most important archaeological ruins of Kenko, Tambo Machay, Pucapucara and Sacsayhauman. Return to your hotel in the early evening. (BB)

Day 3 - Cuzco - Choice of RAFTING or PISAC MARKET / Ollantaytambo
Morning departure for a day of rafting on the Urubamba River through the Sacred Valley of the Inca. OR you may choose to take the tour bus route to the Pisac market for shopping and later to the Ollantaytambo Fortress. Afternoon remain in the Sacred Valley. Overnight at the hotel. (BB/L)

Day 4 - Ollantaytambo - Inca Trail (PRIVATE)
You will be met at your hotel in Cuzco and transfer by bus to the town of Chilca and the starting point of your trek. All the camping gear is carried by our staff giving you the time to enjoy the beautiful scenic views of the Andean mountains. After a short hike you will be registered into the National Park at Llactapata. You will then continue your hike along the Cusichaca river and on into the Amazon basin of your first camp site near Huayllabamba. (B/L/D)

Day 5 - Inca Trail
The preparation for the day will begin after breakfast for the most difficult and steepest part of your trek. Today you will climb through part of the mountain forest and then up to the point of Llullupampa. After your climb to the Warmihuanunca Pass (13,490 ft.) You will get your first glimpse of the snow-capped Vilcabamba range. After a brief time to absorb the incredible surroundings you will descend into the orchid zone where a waterfall can viewed nearby. The second night of camp will be set near the Inca outpost of Pacasmayo, where the ruins can be observed. (B/L/D)

Day 6 - Inca Trail
The day starts by climbing to the 13,000 ft pass and the ruins of Runcuracay. As you descend into the rainforest you will notice a change in the vegetation. The hike then leads into the ruins of Sayajmarca and into an Inca tunnel opening at the ruins of Phuyupatamarca, where your camp will be set. Here you will have time to explore the area and prepare for the final day of your hike. (B/L/D)

Day 7 - Inca Trail - Machu Picchu
The final day of your journey takes you on a rapid decent through the cloud forest and to the ruins of Winay Wayna. As your anticipation of reaching the celestial site grows greater and greater with every step, your tired body is rejuvenated knowing that only a few more steps and turns on the Inca highway will etch a significant memorable day in our life. The trail continues onward leading you to Inti Punku,"The Gate of The Sun." Here you will get your first magnificent view of the forgotten city of Machu Picchu. You will have time to admire the incredible view before making decent into the huge coliseum like stadium of the Inca. Here our staff will explain the history and the myths of this archaeological site. Afterwards, you will be transferred by bus to the base of Machu Picchu and the town of Aguas Calientes for the remainder of the day on your own. Ovenight at the hotel. Day 8 - Free day - Machu Picchu - Cuzco
Today you will have the full day on your own. You may choose to re-enter Machu Picchu or take the day relaxing. In the afternoon you will depart from Aguas Calientes by Visadome train with many memories that pictures will never tell. After your return to Cuzco you will be transferred to your hotel. ( BB )

    Day 9 - Cuzco - Puerto Maldonado - Wasai Tambopata Lodge
    Our staff will transfer you to the Cuzco airport as you bid farewell to Cuzco on the flight to Puerto Maldonado. Here the local staff will meet and transfer you by bus to the WASAI Maldonado Lodge where you will receive a welcoming tropical fruit beverage as well secure excess baggage. Continue to the Tambopata river where you will embark for a 3 to 4 hour motorboat trip up the Tambopata River to WASAI Tambopata Lodge & Research Center. (box lunch on route). During the trip you enter the primary rainforest where a variety of plant as well as wildlife can be observed You will have the opportunity to observe caiman, turtles and numerous amount of bird species that flourish on the rivers edge. Also the opportunity to see families of Ronsocos, the largest rodents in the world. Upon your arrival you will take a short rest in your accommodation at the lodge, then proceed for a introductory walk in the forest nearby to learn basic principles of ecology and hear some wildlife natural history. Return to the lodge for dinner. After a hearty dinner you will make your first visit to the forest to observe the nocturnal life of insects, frogs of various colors, and an occasional encounter with nocturnal mammals. Here you can enjoy the diverse sounds of the jungle which will accompany our first night in the Amazonia. Overnight at the WASAI Tambopata Lodge. (BB/L/D)

    Day 10 - Wasai Lodge Tambopata
    Early morning wake up early (4:00 am) to drink a coffee or hot drink and leave for the "Collpa". You will travel up the Tambopata river ("Bahuaja" in the local dialect )for an hour and a half, before arriving a safe distance for observation one of the greatest spectacles of wildlife. Known as one of the largest Macaw Licks in the world, almost everyday hundreds of parrots and macaws of various species, enjoying their diet of mineral salts on the clay wall. It is an experience that never will be forgotten. Afterwards you will make a stop on the river bank to have a fruit snack and we will return to the lodge to have breakfast and rest. After lunch you will enter the verdant jungle on a special trail to observe wild life. You will then enter the territory of peccaries, deer and others, with the possibility to hear or see the tracks of them, or discovering a troop of monkeys traveling through the forest in search of food. Time permitting, you can return to enjoy a relaxing swim in the cascade of the cat. After dinner we can make another trip through the jungle, search for caimans or relax in our lodge surrounded by exotic nocturnal sounds. Overnight at the WASAI Tambopata Lodge. (B/L/D)

    Day 11 - Wasai Lodge Tambopata - Wasai Lodge Maldonado
    After breakfast, you will depart from the WASAI Lodge proceeding down river by a motorized boat to the WASAI Maldonado Lodge in Puerto Maldonado. Here, you will get to relax in our bungalows and enjoy lunch. After lunch, you will leave and travel for twenty minutes on the Madre de Dios River, to access the trail to Lake Sandoval, a beautiful typical rainforest lake. ( approx. 5 km hike to the banks of the lake.) There you will board a canoe to paddle around the lake to enjoy the beautiful landscape. You will also get to observe wildlife, such as kingfishers, herons, hoatzins (unique pre historic looking birds), monkeys, etc. With some luck, you may get the opportunity to see a local family of the endangered giant otters which live on the lake. You will as well have the opportunity to fish for piranhas and swim in the lake. Late afternoon, you can enjoy a spectacular sunset over Lake Sandoval. You will return back to your lodge by hiking to the Madre de Dios River, then take a boat to Puerto Maldonado. There you will stay in the modern and comfortable bungalows of WASAI Maldonado Lodge. After dinner, you are able to rest or go around the city on foot or on bicycle. You can also enjoy the pool and its cascade surrounded by verdant vegetation. Overnight at the WASAI Maldonado Lodge.     Day 12 - Wasai Lodge - Puerto Maldonado - Lima
    You will be met and transferred to the Puerto Maldonado airport & the local airline flight departing to Lima. On your arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel.(optional tours available in Lima)Overnight at the Hotel. (BB)

    Day 13 - Lima - arrive home
    You will be met and transferred to the Lima airport for your departing flight home. (BB)
